DEADLINE EXTENDED TO NOVEMBER 4TH
October is Respect Life Month, a time when we reaffirm the inherent dignity of every human person, created in the image and likeness of God. Respecting life calls us not only to defend life from conception to natural death, but also to accompany those who struggle with poverty, hunger, homelessness, and marginalization.
As Catholics, we are called to recognize Christ in the poor and vulnerable and to work for a society where every person can flourish. In his message for the 2026 World Day of the Poor, Pope Leo XIV reminds us that "The Lord is the refuge of the poor" and challenges Christians not only to seek refuge in God, but also "to be a refuge for the poor."
To deepen our understanding of the realities faced by so many of our brothers and sisters, Catholic Charities- Social Concerns and St. Vincent dePaul invite you to participate in a Poverty Simulation on Saturday, November 7, beginning at 1:00 p.m at St. Barnabas, in the school gym. This interactive experience helps participants encounter the daily challenges of families living in poverty and reflect on our Gospel call to uphold the dignity of every human life. As Pope Leo XIV observes,"The poor of our day are the forgotten and the marginalized: robbed not only of bread, but also of a voice and a face."
Through this simulation, we are invited to see, hear, and respond to those often overlooked in our communities, putting our faith into action through greater compassion, justice, and solidarity. The experience will conclude with the celebration of Mass at 5:00 p.m., where we will gather as one Body in Christ to pray for and with those who are poor and vulnerable.
Date: Saturday, November 7
Time: 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. (followed by Mass at 5:00 p.m.)
Location: St. Barnabas School Gym (sign-in in the atrium)
Register online: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/r/Gaecr2ZxYQ

Why do you want to become a priest? I have been fortunate in my life in many ways, and I believe my faith is responsible for many blessings in my life. I believe God is calling me to further develop not just my own faith, but also the faith of others to continue to spread His message to the world. I believe that joining seminary is the first step towards exploring what God may be calling me to do.
Who is your favorite saint & why? Saint Paul. I've always admired his conversion story. Saul was one of the most notorious persecutors of early Christians. After his conversion, Paul became one of the most significant figures of the New Testament and made a major impact with evangelizing to the Gentiles. I think this speaks to me because we can all learn something from Paul in that it's never too late for any of us to allow Christ's love to transform our lives.
What is your favorite quote? “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift.
That is why it is called the present.”
If you could talk to anyone in the course of our history (dead or alive), who would it be and why?
Pope Saint John XXIII. As a Roncalli High School graduate, the life and legacy of Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli, who would become Pope John XXIII, is very near and dear to me. I would love to be able to ask him about why he became a priest, the risks and fears he faced with Vatican II, and more about his early life.
What is your favorite past time or hobby? I am a big fan of *watching stuff*, whether that's sports, movies, or television. I love watching and following the NBA, especially the Pacers. My favorite shows are Seinfeld, Survivor, and The Amazing Race!
Do you have a favorite bible verse? "I can do all things in him who strengthens me" - Philippians 4:13
Did anyone (priest, religious sister, friend. etc.) make an impact on your decision to enter seminary?
My family has always put an emphasis on our Catholic faith. I owe my gratitude to them for helping foster a community of love and support centered around Catholicism for helping me to take my faith seriously. I have also had many priests throughout the years that I am grateful to help deepen that faith and inspire me to answer God's call, namely Fr. Jim Wilmoth and Fr. Ben Syberg.
What is your favorite form of prayer? It's a simple answer, but my favorite form of prayer is the Mass. There is such beauty and joy in saying "Amen" to allow ourselves to receive Christ, whether that's
weekly or even daily.
What is your favorite title of the Blessed Mother and/or Jesus? Prince of Peace
Any advice for someone discerning the priesthood or religious life? If you think God may be calling you, explore that call! There is no downside to allowing yourself to listen! Your life is a journey, don't be afraid to take a road and see where it leads.
